ZOOX – a self-driving electric vehicle owned by Amazon made a debut on Monday, 14th December 2020. According to ZOOX, its vehicles are built for riders, not drivers. It will be the first robotaxi in the world.
The electric car is designed for urban commuters and it is shaped like a refrigerator, take a look at it yourself if you don’t believe me. The purpose of such a design is to allow riders to face and to interact with each other while having a ride. There is no driver seats nor steering wheels, but space up to four passengers.
As for safety precautions, ZOOX’s electric car has an array of cameras, radar, and lidar sensors all mounted on its four corners, eliminating typical blind spots. The vehicles also come with an airbag system for all four passengers, it can speed up to 75 miles per hour, and its battery will last for 16 hours on a single charge. ZOOX is currently in a testing phase and Amazon will roll out in three cities – Las Vegas (Nevada), Foster City (California), and San Francisco (California).
