Apple mixed reality headset may not be as far as we think. It’s only a matter of time until we are living in a real life Matrix society where augmented reality and virtual reality fuse to become one. According to the respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, “Apple’s MR/AR product roadmap includes three phases: helmet type by 2022, glasses type by 2025, and contact lens type by 2030–2040”.
For a long time now, there had been rumors about the development of all three devices, yet there was no specific information on when we should be expecting them. And the launch date it’s actually not that long as we thought it would be.
The upcoming Apple mixed reality headset is said to be portable and storage giving, although Kuo emphasized that it won’t be as “mobile” as smartphones are, but it’s only a matter of time and technological evolution. In addition, the analyst said that the prototype weighs between 200-300 grams, however his expectations are that Apple will lower this figure to 100-200 grams.
Regarding the price, Kuo added that he expects the Apple mixed reality headset to cost about $1,000 USD in the USA market, based on the prices of the most exclusive Iphones.
As for the Apple glasses and contact lenses, they are both expected to focus on augmented reality rather than virtual reality experiences, while the helmet will combine both. Nevertheless, there are no prototypes for the first two yet, although it will only be a matter of years before we are using them.
