By the beginning of last month, we announced that Snap Inc 一the camera company behind Snapchat and Spectacles一 was working on a new version of high-tech glasses with built-in augmented reality. Back then, Snap Inc reported that the AR eyewear was going to hit the markets by May 2021, and guess what? They met the dates.
Indeed, last Thursday 20th the company introduced the next generation of augmented reality Spectacles and along with them a brand-new immersive experience. Snap Inc stated that this was a long journey of exploration and learning side to side with the creator community, who will now be able to use their lenses directly on to the world.
The new Spectacles are lightweight (they’re only 134 grams) and they open up a new dimension of AR thanks to their dual 3D waveguide displays and their 26.3 degree field of view. Spectacles set a new course for AR creators that can now print their imagination onto the real world in an unique, innovative way.
One charge can last approximately 30 minutes. In addition, the high-tech glasses are fully integrated with Lens Studio, which allows the user to interact in real time with desktop app. You can learn more about Spectacles here. According to the company:
Spectacles feature 2 RGB cameras, 4 built-in microphones, 2 stereo speakers and a touchpad to provide a multi-sensorial experience
At the moment, Spectacles can’t be purchased and only AR creators are able to try them and experiment with them right now. If you consider yourself part of this exclusive group, then you can click here and submit your application.
