Only a couple of weeks ago, Ray-Ban and Facebook launched their 1st generation of smart glasses. And Xiaomi didn’t stay behind. Jumping on this new wave of technology, the renowned Chinese company 一and current world’s biggest smartphone manufacturer一 announced its own first ever pair of smart glasses.
Among the 497 components, Xiaomi Smart Glasses will feature a quad-core ARM processor, a 5 megapixels camera, a monochrome microLED display system, and sensors and communications modules. In other words, the imaging technology won’t showcase color and it will only run in green.
The smart glasses will run in fact on the Android operating system, yet do not conceive of them as a second screen dependable on your smartphone. Quite the opposite, Xiaomi’s first generation of smart glasses will be totally independent: maps will be displayed right in front of your eyes and you’ll be able to hear audio-translations in real time too.
Thanks to the company’s innovative translating algorithm, the integrated microphone will pick up speech and provide translations simultaneously.
Aside from navigation instructions, the smart glasses will allow you to make calls without the need to take your smartphone out of your pocket, thanks to the built-in mic and speakers. They will also display important notifications and messages.
The only apparent downside 一aside from the monochrome screen一 is that the new glasses won’t be fitted to display photos, so you’ll need a cellphone for that. Xiaomi Smart Glasses are surprisingly light, weighting only 51 grams.
So far, Xiaomi announced them as a work in progress, but surely it won’t be long until the concept materializes. There is no official release date nor rumors regarding the price, but we’ll keep you posted on this matter.
