Teased for six weeks on Instagram, the new 990V4 shoe by JJJJOUND and New Balance is finally available online. Released only 24hours ago, the 990V4 is the latest iteration of New Balance’s radical running sneaker from 1982, dubbed 990.
An engineering masterpiece and a pillarstone in the sneaker culture until this day, the 990V4 Navy shoe still preserves its original minimal aesthetic and comfortable design, as well as its signature functionality.
Three decades later, the sneaker continues to be crafted as Jim Davis’ (New Balance’s owner) original brief dictates: this last release maintains both the authentic shape and treatment, honouring the silhouette’s roots.
Regarding the changes that have been introduced with this new launch, we can point to the redesigned sole unit and the small switches on the upper pattern. With its versatile identity intact, the New Balance JJJJound 990v4 Navy Sneaker is constructed in suede overlays and mesh underlays, while featured in fall-ready dark navy tones.
The colorway also includes cotton shoelaces, tongue and collar in black hues. In case you don’t remember, it’s not the first time these brands have worked together. In fact, in 2020, Montreal-based brand and New Balance teamed up to release their first collaboration: the 992 sneaker in green and gray colorways.
Moreover, the 990V4 sneaker achieves a smooth look thanks to secondary reflective elastic laces and subtle 3M details. New Balance’s “N” logo and JJJJound’s branding complete the design at the center of the laterals and at the footbed, respectively.
The new 990V4 is already available on JJJJound’s online store for $265 USD, but only in the USA. Don’t panic! A second global release will follow on October 21st on New Balance’s e-shop.
In similar news, Y-3 and Adidas Terrex also released their new collaborative footwear capsule yesterday.
