Craig Green is a British London-based designer that has been working with Adidas since January last year. The first collaborative collection involved the launch of the two sillouhettes CG Kontuur I and CG Kontuur II. Almost two years later, this partnership continues to thrive.
Craig Green’s new design goes by the name “CG SCUBA PHORMAR” and it features his first special sole unit inspired by scuba footwear. The new pair of sneakers takes inspiration from other previous collections of the British designer, especially Green’s classical ridged sole texture that wraps around the foot.
This type of texture refers to the quilting in Craig Green’s collections, as well as the adidas 3-stripes at the ball of the foot.
But that’s not everything. Aside from the signature ergonomic sole unit, the “CG SCUBA PHORMAR” silhouette also features a cording structure, which also references previous collections between Adidas Originals and the British artist.
What needs to be highlighted from this particular drop is the construction itself. The sneakers are built with a collapsible structure that it’s held together by tunnels and two essential cords. One of them runs from the toe cap to the eyestays, and the other one runs from the toe to the heel.
This type of cording system is both ingenious and pioneering (all work of Green) and it has become a signature within the PHORMAR style. In the designer’s words:
I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN THE EVOLUTION OF DESIGN IDEAS, CREATING AN AESTHETIC THAT IS FOUNDED IN FORM AND FUNCTION. THIS SEASON, WE WORKED CLOSELY WITH ADIDAS TO CREATE OUR FIRST SOLE
