Stone Island has made its entrance to the Miami Art Week on the occasion of Miami Art Basel by launching a multidisciplinary group installation called “ANNEX” at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Combining motocross and art, the “ANNEX” project is a juxtaposition of artwork, fashion and context.
Stone Island teamed up with curator Katja Horvat and director Thibaut Grevet, with whom they created a celebratory film that you can watch below, as well as at the brand’s website or their social media channels.
The techwear specialist envisioned an experience where motocross riders wander through the track while wearing the pieces and being watched by the audience. The core element of the show is portraying high art within an environment that is not the traditional one. According to Katja Horvat,
“Re-contextualization in the outdoor environment brings an additional conversation to each piece. While the juxtaposition at the track creates contrast, the objects are presented to co-exist with the place rather than disrupt it. The immersion in a live environment active with moto riders brings functionality to the artworks and introduces a broader narrative to both the track and the art”.
Moreover, one of the installations was also dedicated to the archive pieces Raso Hand Painted Tortoise Shell of the label’s ‘014’015.
The artists involved in the project are Agathe Snow, Alicia Mersy, Ana Kraš, Bill Kouligas, Frank Dorrey, ILL Studio, Jessy Nite, Leo Gabin, Lucien Smith, Mario Ayala, Soft Baroque, Yngve Holen, 4WorthDoing.
Speaking of technical gear, ASRV and DuPont™ Kevlar® launch first ever collection together.
